Communications Masterclass – Save the date!

On 11 November 2016, The Pam McLean Centre (PMC) will hold two 4 hour Communication Masterclasses suitable for all health staff including clinicians, nurses, allied health and administration at the Royal North Shore Hospital, St Leonards NSW.

This masterclass is unique in that YOU, the participant, will create the key learning outcomes by providing examples of communication scenarios or behaviours you wish to work on in the room. Read more

Call for Volunteer Facilitators Aug-Oct 2016

The Pam McLean Centre (PMC) is based at Royal North Shore Hospital in the Sydney Medical School Northern. We have a pool of professional actors trained in medical scenarios that allow students and graduate doctors the opportunity to explore simulations involving challenging communications. Each year PMC conducts Stage 1 tutorial sessions, called Dealing with Bad News (DBN), and Stage 2 sessions called Aversive Procedures (AP), at each of the clinical schools – RPAH, Concord, RNSH, Westmead, Nepean, SAN. These sessions have received rave reviews from students for more than 10 years. Read more

Dealing with Conflict in the Workplace

We are soon to finish the last of a series of six workshops focused on Dealing with Conflict in the Workplace. The workshop was developed in conjunction with the Northern Sydney Local Health District Centre for Education & Talent Development. Held in four locations across northern Sydney and attended by over 120 staff including Department Heads, Managers, Directors, Allied Health staff, Nurses, Doctors and Administration staff. Read more

The Martyn Sulway & Gillian Harris prize for Communication Skills

We are excited to launch a new prize, open to University of Sydney Medical Students, that celebrates and promotes a skill essential to patient care – communication.

The Martyn Sulway and Gillian Harris prize for Communication Skills has been established by endocrinologist Dr Martyn Sulway, who successfully sourced a considerable donation pool of $72,000 from his own network, to bring the prize to fruition. Read more

End of Life communication, E-learning and Video projects

What’s on the calendar for PMC this month? We are excited to roll out a series of End of Life communication workshops tailored around the specific needs and locations of the organisations we’re working with, being Hunter New England, Southern NSW and Nepean Blue Mountains LHDs.  The diverse characters and scenarios will explore everything from introducing palliative care and prognosis, to Advanced Care Directives, to psychosocial motivations in Decision making.
