2026 Sulway Harris Prize for Excellence in Clinical Communication – Results

PMC, in collaboration with Sydney Medical School (SMS), ran the 10th Sulway Harris Prize for Excellence in Clinical Communication prize event on Wednesday the 30th of September 2026.

The annual event saw three finalist students from SMS participate in response, empathy, and role play activities before an esteemed judging panel consisting of academic, clinical, patient, and medico-legal representatives, as well as a crowd of friends, family, peers, and staff.

This year’s event included a couple of notable moments.

First of which was one of our incredible Senior Facilitators, Margie Bell, taking on the role of MC for the day and doing a fantastic job of it in place of Renee Lim, with support from Professor Stewart Dunn and Professor Fran Boyle.

It also bore witness to the rare event (and the first instance to my knowledge) of two of said finalist students finishing in joint first place. An exciting reflection of the high standards set, and strong commitment to good communication skills, by the next generation.

The results of the event are as follows:

Joint 1st Prize – Anna-Katarina Hicks & Oliver Hervir

3rd Prize – Thomas Alexander

A big congratulations to all three finalists on their fine performances on the day.

And once again we extend our thanks to SMS, our judges, and Avant Mutual.

The Sulway Harris Prize for Excellence in Clinical Communication was established by Dr Martyn Sulway and SMS in 2016.
